Travel | 10 Amazing Places To Visit In Nigeria #MyBucketlist

Hey guys, It’s my first travel blog post, yay!

In my first post ever, I talked about how much I love to travel, even though I rarely get to. Touring and unraveling places can be pleasantly nourishing to the soul. Asides feeding your eyes + soul and keeping the memories, you also get to experience life from different perspectives and understand a variety of cultures.

I definitely want to travel around Africa and the world, but first I’ll start with my very own country, Nigeria.
Nigeria is beautiful, best believe it. And there are a lot of destination worthy places here. I’ll kick off from Lagos, then to other places in Nigeria.

 

Within Lagos

1 – Beaches

It is only very natural that the beach tops this list as Lagos is surrounded by water. Also, I have a thing for water bodies. No I’m not a mermaid, I just find sight and the feel of water is very serene and refreshing to soul. So I surely would not mind taking a few trips to some of the beaches in Lagos. Some of the ones I have on my list right now are the Whispering Palms at Badagry, Lekki Leisure Lake, Ilashe Beach Resorts, Laguna Beach and Takwa Bay.

 

2 – Art Galleries

Art is life, so they say. You see the thing with art is that you get to interpret it as you see fit, or sometimes you don’t really understand it but admire the beauty, texture, details and all. Sometimes I fall in the latter, so it would be a pleasure so behold some of the beautiful artworks in Lagos. There are several art galleries like the Nike Art Gallery at Lekki, ReLe Art Gallery at Onikan, Terrakulture or even the private ones like the Red Door Gallery.

 

3 – Lekki Conservation Centre

As the name implies Lekki Conservation Centre is located at Lekki, Lagos. Aside the wildlife animals present here, Lekki Conservation Centre has the longest canopy walk in Africa which is about 22 meters above ground. Although I’d love to experience nature and see the wildlife animals but the Canopy walk is the main thing I want to experience at the Lekki Conservation Centre, I’d to see how my brain and body would react to the height of the canopy walk. It’s not like I have phobia for heights, sighs actually I just really don’t know yet.

 

4 – Badagry Slave Trade Route

The Badagry slave trade route takes us back in time to how Nigeria was birthed and all the events surrounding this, taking a look back at history wouldn’t be a bad idea. Someday I’d love to take a trip to badagry and explore our history, and also to see the first storey building in Nigeria.

 

Outside Lagos

5 –  Erin Ijesha Waterfalls in Osun State

I’ve never been to a waterfall before, so I’m definitely anticipating my visit to this place as it’s a different type of water unlike the beaches we are used to here in Lagos. Plus I find the pictures and experiences I’ve heard about so far so appealing, I can nearly picture myself there even without going yet.

 

6 – Obudu Mountain Resort in Calabar
Calabar is said to be a beautiful state with different tourist attractions like the Obudu Mountain Resort, Calabar festival, and Tinapa trade. All seems enticing but the Obudu Mountain Resort tops the list for me, oh how thrilling it would be to ride in this cable car.

 

7 – Wikki Warm Springs, Yankari Game Reserves in Bauchi
Yankari game reserves is definitely one place to go, the main thing attracting me is the wikki warm springs. It has one of the most realistic blue-green water that I’ve seen in Nigeria (although in pictures), but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to swim in natural clear blue-green water.

 

8 – Kajuru Castle in Kaduna
Really what else is there to tell? The picture says it all, the Kajuru Castle is such an amazing view to behold. Plus it looks very serene, I wouldn’t mind leaving the hustle and bustle of Lagos to spend a getaway there.

 

9 – Ikogosi Warm Springs in Ekiti State

I’ve heard talks about the hot/warm water and cold water coming from same source at the Ikogosi warm springs, and I’d love to experience it myself when I’m around that side.

 

10 – Idanre hills in Ondo State

Climbing an hill with about 660 steps will definitely be such a big deal but the view from the top is surely worth the stress. Isn’t that how Life generally is? Taking those important steps and climbing seems really hard at first but it’s always worth it at the end. And oh, I’ll definitely be taking some food along to Idanre hills to relieve the stress and replace the calories I’ll be burning.

There are others on my list but this is my top ten.
